ORIGINALLY OF GERMAN heritage, Jennifer Reischel is a multi-lingual "global citizen" who was raised and schooled predominantly in the Far East. She discovered a particular affinity for musicals at the age of eight when joining the Selangor (Malaysia ) Amateur Dramatic Society. Her first acting break happened at age 11 - attending a performance of an American production of The Sound of Music touring South East Asia , she successfully fooled several ladies in the loo during the interval that she was actually one of the von Trapp children. It was inevitable that the performing arts would keep resurfacing in her life, so Jennifer trained on the three-year musical theatre course at Mountview Academy (London ) graduating in 2002. Professional musical theatre experience includes playing various parts in new musicals at the Cardiff International Musical Theatre and Bertha in Nymph Errant at Sadlers Wells. Jennifer also toured the UK in the play An evening with Gary Linneker as an understudy and performed various cabaret and jazz solo singing engagements in London (Lauderdaule House, Pizza on the Park) and Singapore, as well as singing for the German president at age 18. Screen experience includes filming a television pilot at Pinewood Studios where she spent the majority of her time being kidnapped, screaming violently and having her hair pulled (out). She has had the honour of performing with the likes of Kerry Ellis, Josh Groban and Idina Menzel on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in the prestigious Chess in Concert, which is due for DVD release in 2009. She has also performed at the acclaimed fringe venue The Finborough Theatre in Sandy Wilson's The Buccaneer.
After several years of experiencing the pit falls and difficulties of this industry first hand, Jennifer decided to compile her knowledge in the form of a practical, non-nonsense and to the point guide, including specifically advice on a career in musical theatre. The result, "So you want to tread the boards" published by JRBooks with a foreword by award winning composer Leslie Bricusse, is available on Amazon and (if a UK resident) at a book store near you. She hopes it will assist fellow and aspiring performers to create work and audition opportunities, as well as remaining financially and emotionally afloat in a difficult and uncertain industry with no rules to follow to guarantee success. For reviews, a copy of the foreword, table of contents and other info please contact Jennifer directly.
When not treading the boards (and in an attempt to get on the property ladder), Jennifer works as an Executive Assistant in the City for CEOs, CFOs and other cleverly-minded managing figures in the insurance and investment banking sector. During her free time, she can usually be found playing the piano/guitar/composing, attempting to finally master the splits at Pineapple Dance Studios, hitting top Cs at the Actors Centre - or on facebook.
